New to the Field? Start Here
If you’re just getting started with heavy equipment operation, these beginner-friendly courses for trades are for you. PTS is the perfect place to start learning, and we offer:
Heavy Equipment Operator I
- Three-week, entry-level course
- Results in NCCER accreditation
- In-seat and in-class instruction
- Can be taken standalone or combined with other courses
- Includes heavy equipment safety and operational techniques
- Equipment includes skid steers, wheel loaders, compactors, backhoes, and articulated off-road dump trucks
Mobile Crane Operations
- Three-week, entry-level course
- Results in NCCCO certification
- In-seat and in-class instruction
- Can be taken standalone or combined with other courses
- Equipment includes mobile hydraulic telescopic boom swing-cab and fixed-cab cranes
- Includes instruction on crane safety, operation techniques, wire rope, and basic rigging practices
An accelerated 2-week version is available for those with extensive crane operator experience

Heavy Equipment Operator II
- Requires completion of Heavy Equipment Operator I
- Equipment includes bulldozers, scrapers, excavators, dump trucks, and motor graders
- Includes instruction on grades, site work, and excavation math
- Can be taken standalone or combined with other courses
Crane Prep & Test Program
- Three-day refresher program for those already certified
- Prepares students for NCCCO core and specialty written exams
- Ideal for first-time test takers as well as recertification
