crane operator salaries

As we ring in the new year, there’s no better time to consider new career opportunities. Whether you’re looking for a change of pace, were recently laid off, are a high school student preparing to graduate, or are a veteran re-entering the workforce, mobile crane operator training might be the perfect fit for you.

Going into 2024, construction workers are in high demand and crane operator salaries remain competitive. As of December 2023, the average crane operator salary in the United States is an impressive $50,729.

What Will Affect Crane Operator Salaries in 2024?

Growing Industry

The mobile crane industry is expected to grow by 6.9% annually between 2024 and 2032. Both the construction and mining industries are responsible for this annual growth. Construction and mining continue to grow due to increased infrastructure projects and a shift in the focus of mining materials.

  • Construction projects will focus on repairing and building roads, bridges, other infrastructure, homes, and commercial buildings
  • Mining will focus on tin, aluminum, lead, and coal

Both industries require crane operators to move large slabs and equipment. Additionally, more and more products are being shipped every day, and crane operators are essential to moving large pallets and products in warehouses and shipping docks.

Crane Operators are In-Demand

With the construction, mining, and shipping/warehousing industries growing in 2024, the demand for crane operators will increase as well. These professionals are crucial to many processes as they are responsible for safely moving large materials, structures, and equipment around building and mining sites and warehouses.

Your Location

While crane operator salaries in the United States average over $50,000, there may be slight differences based on what state you are working in. For example, in Ohio, the average crane operator salary ranges from $44,110 and $58,170 while in Kentucky it falls between $42,322 and $55,812.
